I love the power of the Internet, and the way it impacts on how we as marketers can reach target audiences, often reaching audiences we hadn't even targetted, and for very little cost!
I was forwarded a link to a great video recently from a friend.
I think it's a pretty clever piece of marketing. Don't take my word for it though.
Do the test and see if you pass!
It's a video put together by Transport for London for their Creative Cycle Campaign. Transport for London set up a website for the video, www.dothetest.co.uk. As well as their website, the video has been up on YouTube for 4 weeks now and has already been viewed over 2 million times.
I did a Google search for "do the test" and found a lot of sites talking about the video. Since its launch on 11 March, there have been 980 blog spots, and 1813 comments made about it, as well as the 2 million (at least) who have watched it. Not bad for a video put together for a target market on the other side of the world!
Viral marketing strikes again!
Viral marketing facilitates and encourages people to pass along marketing messages voluntarily. I was sent an email with the line Do the Test, with a link to the video. Of course I had to go and check it out.I doubt whether I would have bothered though (or many others for that matter) if I was told to go check out the latest video from Transport for London for their Cycle Safety Campaign.
Viral marketing works on the concept that one friend passes onto a couple of their friends, who pass it on to a couple more of their friends, and so on and so forth. Before you know it your message has reached hundreds, if not thousands, or millions of people! And it's cheap thanks to the Power of the Internet!
Of course, you first need to come up with a great video, message, or giveaway, something that will capture peoples' imaginations and makes them pass it on to their friends…now how hard could that be?
