OK so what do all these Web 2.0 and Social Marketing terms mean. Here is a small start to helping you understand.
Web 2.0
Refers to the evolution of web sites from simple information resources to interactive sites that offer user generated content and online collaboration and sharing amongst users.
Social Networking
Online communities that bring individuals together that share common interests
Facebook
Is a social networking site that connects like minded people. With static profile layouts, only Facebook Applications or third party developed applications can be used to customize a user’s Facebook page.
MySpace
Is a social networking site that connects like minded people. Using HTML, users can change the look of their profile pages, by adding graphics, colour or sound.
Flickr
Is a photo sharing website, and one of the earlier online community platforms and Web 2.0 applications
Facebook Application
Small programme that can be placed on a user’s website that adds functionality and allows customization of their Facebook page.
Viral Marketing
The use of social networks to produce an increase in brand awareness. Viral marketing encourages people to pass along a marketing message voluntarily.
