I have often talked about the value of attending conferences and the personal connections that are made at them. I have been very lucky over recent years to have met some brilliant, fun and honest people. People that you can just be straight up with and know they will return the favour.
Several years ago at SMX Sydney I first met Matt Burgess as a group of us Brisbanites landed to ‘do the conference’. At the time he was working for Wotif as an SEO Executive in charge of Content Development and Social Media Strategies.
I liked Matt instantly and over the last few years have stayed in contact with him, been to SMX again together and discussed Search and Social wherever possible. I mentally earmarked Matt as a smart guy who would be an asset to our team, and was about to try and entice him to join our team when he moved to a role with Tourism Queensland as a Digital Content Coordinator. Outside of work he has maintained a portfolio of sites using WordPress and promoting affiliate opportunities as well as a popular Music Blog. He doesn’t just talk about online marketing he is constantly living it and learning every day.
His experience working with large creative agencies, national brands, innovative and successful products and his deep understanding of Online Marketing strategies and tactics makes Matt one of Australia’s young rising stars and a popular one with industry people both here and in the United States.
I’m excited to announce that Matt will be joining our team as our Senior Digital Marketer and will be working directly with myself and Greg Boser on the next steps in our long term strategy for both Ireckon and BlueGlass Australia.
It’s an exciting announcement following on from some pretty significant changes and plans being locked into place for us, and one that comes with some big goals we aim to meet.
There are going to be more announcements over the coming months which Matt will play a big part in. I am really glad to have Matt on board – welcome to the team!
And yes, Matt and I will be at SMX Sydney again this year. Look forward to seeing you there!
