Many times I have been asked if I could supply the domain login details for a particular domain name, because the domain owner has lost or misplaced the original emails which contain this information. Many people think it’s as simple as just calling and requesting the details, but, would it be considered safe if they were given out just like that? It’s almost the same as giving someone a copy of your house keys. Ok, so they may be 2 different cans of beans, but a lot of businesses rely on their website, so it’s crucial that the details are as secure as possible.
So I thought I’d share some pointers on how to get a copy of the login details for your domain account.
First, make sure that the domain is actually hosted with us. If the WhoIs information mentions the registrar being DistributeIT, then it will most likely be us.
Then click on http://www.ireckondomains.com.au/, and select MANAGE YOUR DOMAINS. In this new window, you can login using the domain account details we are about to retrieve.
You will notice there is a FORGOT PASSWORD link underneath the LOGIN button. Click this link to retrieve your domain account details.
Once you’ve filled out the domain name field (enter without the www.) and entered the CATCHPA image information, it will send an email to the registered email address that was either:
- nominated when this domain was originally purchased, or
- the last set email address if the contact details have been updated previously
If you no longer have the email address that is set in the domain contact details, then this attached document will have to be filled out and sent to the registrar along with any required documents.
It may sound like a lot of trouble to retrieve a copy of the domain account details, but think about it this way. If someone else were to request the login details for YOUR domain, don't you feel better knowing that these details are not easily handed out? I know I do…
