Internet or sex - what would you choose?
Posted by: Narelle on 18 Dec 2008 @ 3:17 pm Category: The Wondrous Wide Web
I was listening to the radio this morning and heard about a new survey that’s just come out. It says 46% of women would choose the internet over sex for two weeks, for men it’s 30%. (58% of all people would give up television for 2 weeks rather than be without the internet).
So it got me to thinking…how dependent am I on the internet? Could I go without it for 2 weeks? (regardless of...
Smirking at the past
Posted by: David on 16 Dec 2008 @ 2:12 pm Category: The Wondrous Wide Web
A few weeks back I was visiting family in Melbourne and my father made a comment about how, when he was a boy, used to hook up a crystal radio to a metal pole to pick up the cricket scores. It was the only means he had.
For someone who spends most of my time on the net, I had to smirk at the ancient technology.
It's quite interesting considering today, we log onto the Internet to...

I have a huge issue with the apparent lack of personal responsibility that has now become so common. We’ve all heard the stories about people suing large corporations or individuals for ridiculous amounts of money and actually being awarded huge sums despite their obvious stupidity and its significant contribution to the outcome.
Take the woman who sued McDonalds after sustaining burns...
memememe!

I am going to do something yet to be done in this blog, I am going to answer an Internet meme style set of questions. This is a blog, and while its never been done here yet, meme's are a very very popular thing to do in your blog to make it look like you're actually posting regularly and providing insight to your readers without actually having to think of a subject to rant and rave...
Surveys limit my thinking
Posted by: Dominique on 7 Oct 2008 @ 9:20 am Category: The Wondrous Wide Web
I was recently filling out a survey on the internet when it occurred to me that these surveys only provided me with a limited selection of answers....Answers created by the creator of the survey as if I were unable to produce an answer on my own.

Can bad HTML be trendy?
Posted by: Dominique on 25 Sep 2008 @ 3:51 pm Category: The Wondrous Wide Web
I am going to explore the notion that bad html can indeed be a trendy viral marketing ploy which attracts a special, light-hearted demographic and achieves mass popularity. I shall provide some samples from my trip to the vast junkyards of the world wide web to justify my aforementioned statement to all who don't believe me.
If you know me well, then you'll know my two favourite things...

The key to knowledge transfer has been stated by many as providing platforms for not only explicit knowledge that can be codified and disseminated fairly easily, but for tacit knowledge too (that is often too hard to explain without a visual, physical or anomalous demonstration). Many organisations have spent countless amounts of resources on perfecting the art of transferring such...
Where would you be without internet?
Posted by: Mark on 4 Sep 2008 @ 8:37 am Category: The Wondrous Wide Web
That's a question I have never asked myself. Because when I needed it it was within reach and I was able to use it. Until I moved to one of Brisbane's suburbs.
As a web developer I use the internet professionally for at least 8 hours per day. And often I find
myself using the internet at home after working hours. So when we started renting a nice house in the south east part of Brisbane, I...

What do Clinton, Obama, Rudd and Howard have in common (apart from the obvious – They are political figures)? They all chose to use the internet as a campaign marketing scheme and had great success in doing so.
Why did they have great success? Well that's simple... some bright-minded crony decided to put them on the trendy track of social networking. Well actually, how Obama came about...
What's the difference?

I used to love MySpace. It was the first real social networking site that appealed to me. I was introduced to MySpace when living and working overseas - by a colleague and wonderful friend who spent hours a day looking through profiles and sending messages and photos to his friends. When I started up my profile – he showed me how to get a skin for it – and add and move boxes around the...
Designing Web Success - Intentional or accidental

A question that has been top of mind for quite some time (I can take a while to let ideas go) is whether you can actually engineer large scale success on the web or not.
One of my recent blog posts on my blog site covers this - click to read.
Power of the Internet

I love the power of the Internet, and the way it impacts on how we as marketers can reach target audiences, often reaching audiences we hadn't even targetted, and for very little cost!
I was forwarded a link to a great video recently from a friend.
I think it's a pretty clever piece of marketing. Don't take my word for it though.
Do the test and see if you pass!
It's a video put...
Web 2.0 hype and a reality check for your web site
Posted by: Darryl on 19 Mar 2008 @ 12:00 am Category: The Wondrous Wide Web
The current online buzz words we all hear are Web 2.0. There is a lot of mixed messaging about 2.0 and what does it really mean. I was reading a good article about the hype / push to 2.0 everything out around the market (Social Media and Web 2.0 - Jason Burby).
The new drive behind 2.0 has a bit of a familiar ring to the year 2000 hype surrounding the web changing the world (shortly before...
