Projects in the Oven

After having the pleasure of working on various projects of different sizes and complexity, I have progressively come to find that project development has incredible similarities to cooking.
You’re probably thinking - what a peculiar notion those things are nothing alike! Well you’re probably right, but I’ve had some time to somewhat dissect the two and I managed to find some common ground (and if you’ve played a part in project analysis you will already know what I’m talking about).
If you’re a terrible cook like me, you will undoubtedly depend on “recipe steps for dummies” and a simple sounding ingredients list in order to make a satisfactory meal that is edible and in some cases appetizing. The foundation of information provided in a recipe and the interpretation of the cook paves the way of how successful the end solution will be.
Projects too rely on founding information which significantly determines the successfulness of an endeavor reaching its objectives. It all starts at the core – What the client wants (What do they feel like eating). Catching the fruitful and exuberant ideas of a client, then filtering them into a structured set of ingredients and recipes to pass onto developers is a common part that I play in web development projects.
What would you like?
• Umm something that handles my ecommerce needs?
• Something that lets me mass email members would be nice?
• A sprinkle of user friendliness
Ok, now it’s time to write the recipe for the developers hmmm:

My interpretations of what the client wanted; the interpretations of the chef; and the time the project spends in the oven are all dependent and deciding factors on if the project is a hit or a flop (I picture muffins coming out of the oven fluffy or flat)…. But what does this correlation mean?
Well I guess we have elucidated the significance of the initial source of information from clientele. The more concise a client can be, the better chance they will have of getting what they expected coming out of the oven.
